68. 2012 Plutocracy

2012 “Plutocracy”

2012 – December: As we waited for something special to happen at the end of the Mayan Calendar I took a random survey asking how did 2012 feel? Everyone I questioned told me “2012 was a Great Year”. This made me excited to put together the last panel in this American History 21st Century collection. My enthusiasm declined as I opened the boxes of images and data I collected and started my research, which made me name 2012 “Wag the Dog”. If you haven’t seen the movie, I recommend it.

2012 was an illusion. It felt good. Money was loosening up. You saw construction happening. Images presented to us were family oriented, but 2012 has under-layers of information which, when put together, makes me shake inside.

2012 will expand into individual posts once a day for the next week.

69. 2012 New Laws

2012 “New Laws”

Did the Occupy movement scare the government?

12/31/2011 – National Defense Authorization Act

Title X, Subtitle D, entitled “Counter-Terrorism_ sub-sections 1021 and 1022

“Indefinite detention without trial” An unconstitutional measurement, reversing civil rights gained back in the Habeas Corpus era.

05/2012 – H.R. 347 “Another anti-Occupy law” Punishable up to ten years in jail to protest anywhere the Secret Service “is or will be temporarily visiting”. The Secret Service is now a division of Homeland Security and by the nature of their work they often do not announce where they will be, effectively making it unsafe to protest anywhere.

70. 2012 Danny the Syrian

2012 “Danny the Syrian”

2012 – February 2012 – Danny the Syrian is speaking to CNN telling the world that he’s in a town that is being attacked by the Syrian government. This news is being broadcast internationally. Something didn’t feel right. Who was this guy speaking English with a British accent, talking to Anderson Cooper and being called Danny The Syrian? His message fueled a lot of alarm and escalated war. He was discredited later for enhancing his interviews with gunfire theatrics and background explosions. Who was listening when the Syrian government was saying, “We aren’t doing this”?

The Assad government was denying these attacks on their people. VIA mainstream media there was a lot of pressure put on the government. They sent military forces to investigate these reports. They were shot at, they shot back and the civil war became real.

CNN promoted Danny the Syrian until he became the mainstream media’s poster child for a military invasion of Syria. The story was compelling, with gunfire, explosions and graphic images of bombed buildings, dead people and injured children. It was later proven that Danny the Syrian falsified his information and was caught on camera coordinating gunfire and explosions to be staged during his interview with CNN.

71. 2012 Global Warming

2012 “ Global Warming ”

Impacts of Global Warming

2012 – Our scientists have been trying to tell our government that Climate Change is Real. During 2012 there were 11 Natural Disasters in the US costing over $1 Billion each, they included droughts, wildfires, hurricanes and floods.

2012 – Was the Hottest Year on Record – Scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the average temperature in 2012 was 55.3 degrees, 3.2 degrees above the average recorded during the 20th century and 1.0 degree above 1998, until now the hottest on record.

2012 – Arctic sea ice hit a record low this year while reports from the private sector are trying to debunk the overwhelming scientific data. Laws are being passed that release private industries from responsibility for harmful wrong doing to the environment.

72. 2012 Lobbyist

2012 “ Lobbyist ”

2012 – There are twelve thousand lobbyists in Washington D.C. Corporations (many of them foreign), Foundations and Think Tanks spend Millions of Dollars lobbying to advance their interests.

This pressure from self-interests challenges our financial, our health and our well being for present and future generations. Our system is failing us and it needs an audit and overhaul.

73. 2012 Who is Watching You2012 “ Who is Watching You ”

It feels like we are pawns in a global chess game. It’s not about what’s right verses what’s wrong, it’s about profit and control.
